Together we strive to build a safe, respectful and nurturing environment focused on maximizing each child's sense of well- being and life learning skills. We prepare all students to become active producers and consumers to empower critical thinking in a technologically advanced world by providing culturally responsive teaching that reflects the identities of our diverse community. As a community we understand that caregivers, faculty and students are all responsible for fostering their social emotional learning, academic development and digital skills. Collectively, we enable our children to become productive members of the community, adapt to change and become tomorrow's leaders.

 

 

 

MISSION STATEMENT
P.S. 220 is a community of learners that believes that “Today’s Learner is Tomorrow’s Leader” School is preparation not only for a career, but also for many facets of social responsibility. Therefore, it is our obligation to ensure that our students are prepared to be productive members of society and tomorrow’s leaders. As a result, our students learn to think responsibly, reflect on their purpose for learning and develop student agency, which guides students to contribute to our global community through active advocacy.

 

 

 

 

 

P.S. 220Q SCHOOL WIDE INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS (SWIF)
At P.S. 220, our efforts are placed in developing metacognition including curiosity, open-mindedness and persistence within our students. As a result, they will question, engage in collaborative discussion and use self-monitoring to support their thinking. Our shared practices encompass assessing students’ needs, tailoring the learning experience, and using teaching techniques such as rubrics and feedback that purposefully heighten students’ engagement leading to independent thinking and empowered learning. By incorporating culturally responsive teaching we will continue to develop equity for all learners.

Our school wide discipline initiative is based on building upon positive behaviors to encourage all students to develop character traits that result in academic success. Our main goal is to reinforce positive behaviors and encourage all students to be active members of the school community, leading them to understand that appropriate behavior results in academic and personal success.
